Illinois Road Trip



 

An Illinois road trip will provide you with an amazing time especially if you decide to visit the city of Chicago.  Make sure you visit the Sears Tower and snap some pictures of the Chicago skyline because you will be able to see everything from this vantage point.  The Billy Goat Tavern is the origin of the curse of the Chicago Cubs and it is a destination that you should check out while you are in the city. 

 

Downtown City Adventure

Chicago is the ultimate downtown city adventure for many reasons including: outstanding public transportation, endless amount of nightlife and restaurants, lots of great tourist activities, professional sports, outdoor festivals, and much more.  There is so much to do in the city but we would like to suggest that you check out these road trip recommendations.

Outdoor Festivals in Chicago are the place to be during the summer months because the city provides so many activities for you to enjoy while you are in town.  Lollapalooza is an annual 3-day event that takes place in Grant Park each summer at the end of July and features the best alternative rock bands in the world.  

Wineries are readily available in Illinois and there are over 70 of them to choose from for your upcoming road trip.  There are several wine tours that you can explore and the Illinois Wine home page is a great place for you to begin planning.

National Parks & Monuments

Horse Tracks

Arlington International in Chicago is a Churchill Downs company and gives you a great race track experience.  It is open during the summer months and with any luck you can win lots of money betting on these races so that you can pay for your entire Illinois road trip.

Balmoral Park in Crete is the place to see live harness racing. This is a smaller size track and you will not feel as if you are lost in the shuffle and you'll be able to get to the betting window at the last second to strategically place your bet and get the best odds.

Fairmount Park in Collinsville features a thoroughbred and harness racing experience that you will truly enjoy.  Fairmount Park features a banquet center that is ideal for a large group event such as a wedding, reunion, anniversary, or large party.

Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago is a great course that features live racing and simulcast events.  There are lots of promotional events to provide the optimal race track experience.

Maywood Park is only minutes from O'Hare Airport and features harness racing like you've never seen it before.  It was the original home of the Cook County Fairgrounds before it blossomed into the racing extravaganza that is there today.

 

Theme Parks

Kiddieland has been open since 1929 and is located in Melrose Park and is Chicagoland's oldest amusement park featuring over 30 rides and attractions!                   

Six Flags Great America in Chicago will not disappoint you if you are seeking some serious adventure on your Illinois road trip.  There's some amazing coasters that you should check out including Batman The Ride, Iron Wolf, and Vertical Velocity.
